In this case study, I will share my journey in designing a buy-sell app for vehicles. The objective was to create an app that made it effortless for customers to view, favourite, buy, sell, and manage their cars.

Our focus throughout the design process was to craft a user-friendly interface that would streamline the shopping experience.

 Process

Researching User Behaviours

The project began with an in-depth analysis of other car buy/selling sites. In my search I analyzed many different car sites and identified any common UX issues that were present. We then held a meeting to discuss our findings and planned our next course of action.

Designing The Site

It wasn't really hard to improve on already existing sites because most of them were so convoluted that any level of simplicity would work. Keeping it simple with additional features was more than enough for what we were looking for. There were 3 of us in our group and I took the initiative and offered to work on the main page. While doing so I applied these principles and made sure that the listings were simple, organized and visually appealing for the time we had.

Optimizing Additional Features

One of my main challenges was optimizing the main page.  With features like favourites, filters, and messaging this was no easy task. Specifically with the favourites system my objective was to allow users to save and un-save without refreshing the page. This would allow for multiple CSS animations and a more seamless user experience. I decided to use Ajax to update the users favourites in real time and have the SQL do most of the heavy lifting.

 Outcome

The finished buy-sell app became a user-friendly and seamless experience that was the star of the show in our presentation.
